About HipsterApproved.net

I like to think I know what a 'Hipster' is...but I wouldn't say I am one....I'm not going to let that stop me from blogging about them.

Hipsters in the ‘internet’ news…

Saw this article from yesterdays laist.com -> Hipster’s Paradise: Mustache and Beard Contest at Silver Lake Public Library Tonight

I know this event is on the other coast from HipsterApproved headquarters, but I’m trying to make HipsterApproved nationwide…then the WORLD!

I am taking a road trip to California next week (LA area), so if anyone has any hip locations they would suggest I check out…that would be cool. I do have 2 ‘Hipster kids’ that need to be entertained as well. So far I have:

  • Santa Monica Pier
  • Venice Beach
  • Hollywood (Mann’s Chinese Theater, Amoeba Records, Capital Records building, Griffith Park)
  • Legoland

Anyway…email me…back to the news…I’ve requested pictures of the winners of the Beard and Mustache Competition, so if I get those I’ll be sure to post them.

Hipsters on film….

Just read this article called ‘7 Hipster Movies You Don’t Have To Be A Hipster To Love‘ here on ScreenJunkies.com

I agree with all the movies on the list, which is:

  1. Lost in Translation (I really like all of Sofia Coppola’s films. They all have a pretty awesome soundtrack, and when you pair a good movie with good music…nothing gets better.)
  2. Juno (This movie made me realize what a great actress Ellen Paige is. And of course Michael Cera is the ultimate Hipster.)
  3. 500 Days of Summer (This movie is a romantic comedy, which I usually don’t care for…but I love Zooey Deschanel. Joseph Gordon-Levit is an excellent actor as well…great cast.)
  4. The Royal Tenenbaums (Again…all of director Wes Anderson’s films should be on this list.)
  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Director Michel Gondry started his career directing some awesome music videos. He does wild effects without the use of CGI. I really like some of his films…others..not so much.)
  6. Little Miss Sunshine (I really like this film. Alan Arkin stole the show.)
  7. Pineapple Express (I don’t know if I would call this a ‘hipster’ film as much as I would call it a ‘stoner’ film. From what I heard, someone loved the Brad Pitt character ‘Floyd’ so much in True Romance, that he wanted to see a full-length feature of him, hence this film was made.)

I think this list could be a lot longer than just 7 movies…they left out Clerks for God’s sake! Add a hipster film you really like in the comments. OK?

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2012 inductees

I recently (around 12/7/11) saw a news article on-line about the up-coming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2012.

I was very excited to see that ‘hipsters’ the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Donovan (as well as Guns N’ Roses and others) have been inducted!

I also read that the induction concert has been moved back to Cleveland, Ohio instead of New York City where it has taken place for a few years.

Well….I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio and thought that this would be the ultimate concert to see on a visit ‘home’.

I just took a look at RockHall.com website to verify the date, and saw that the concert has already SOLD OUT on Dec 17th!

The concert is taking place on April 14th 2012 at Cleveland’s historic Public Hall.

If anyone goes, and would like to report back to HipsterApproved.net with all the details…that would be great!
