Hip Films…Beastie Boys – Horseplay

I came across this unauthorized (but very good) video about the Beastie Boys.

Though there is no Beastie Boys music on it, it has a lot of great interviews. Definitely worth checking out…

Here’s what it says on Vimeo about it:

An unauthorized documentary film packed with exclusive interviews

Hailing from NYC, the Beastie Boys have somehow managed to stay at the top for almost 20 years. Starting off as a Punk outfit, they soon changed direction and exploded in the mid 80’s as foul-mouthed novelty rappers. They have supported Madonna, made spoof music videos, learned to play instruments, gone back to their roots and more recently have been involved in political and social issues. This is the band who have done it all! Nobody expected the Beastie Boys to last, but they’ve matured into one of the most intriguing and influential acts on the planet.

‘Beastie Boys: Horseplay’ tells their incredible story, via interviews, rare footage and much, much more. From the start these boys were labeled as ‘no-hopes’, those least likely to survive the struggle to the top – but they proved their critics wrong. In a tale of break dancing, beer cans and Buddhism, you can only expect one thing – the unexpected.

Awesome Beastie Boy ‘Adrock’ videos

When MCA died I was searching the internet about him…

I came across these interviews with Adam ‘Adrock’ Horovitz talking about the origins of the Beastie Boys and the use of samplers and beat boxes. It was put out by the sample machine manufacturer Propellerhead.

Also posted were all the outtakes that ended up on the editing floor. This may even be better because it’s longer…

R.I.P. MCA

I learned yesterday while out for a weekend that Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed away from cancer.

This makes me sad. The Beastie Boys are one of my all-time favorite bands, and I had the pleasure of meeting Adam after the Tibetian Freedom Festival outside RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. He was very gracious and I have the greatest respect for him and all he’s done.

He will be missed greatly.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2012 inductees

I recently (around 12/7/11) saw a news article on-line about the up-coming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2012.

I was very excited to see that ‘hipsters’ the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Donovan (as well as Guns N’ Roses and others) have been inducted!

I also read that the induction concert has been moved back to Cleveland, Ohio instead of New York City where it has taken place for a few years.

Well….I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio and thought that this would be the ultimate concert to see on a visit ‘home’.

I just took a look at RockHall.com website to verify the date, and saw that the concert has already SOLD OUT on Dec 17th!

The concert is taking place on April 14th 2012 at Cleveland’s historic Public Hall.

If anyone goes, and would like to report back to HipsterApproved.net with all the details…that would be great!
