Hip local news…Farmers Market in O.V.

It happened this past Father’s Day weekend 6/16/12. A tent was set-up (as well as a few tables) for the NEW Ocean View Farmers Market.

This was reported in HamptonRoads.com:

Five Points Community Farm Market is partnering with Pinewell by the Bay Civic League to provide produce for the Farm 2 Table produce stand at Miles Memorial Methodist Church on Granby Street in Norfolk. The market opens this weekend and will be available from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays until Labor Day weekend, rain or shine.

This is the same spot where a pumpkin patch is set-up in October, and Christmas Trees are sold in December.

Don’t forget your canvas bag…

Local news…Garbage @ National 9/14/12

Awesome band Garbage will be performing at The National Theater in Richmond, Virginia on Friday Sept. 14th. Tickets are $25 in advance (plus service charge).

“Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson has said that the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Not Your Kind Of People’, has been inspired by David Bowie, Siouxsie Sioux, and Cocteau Twins.

When asked if ‘Not Your Kind Of People’ saw them looking toward any new influences, Manson said she had been looking back to “all these people that built my musical fabric”. Butch Vig added that he’d taken inspiration from prog rock and the first Suicide album.

After being asked what they had been up to since their 2005 album ‘Bleed Like Me’, Manson said: “I don’t really know what I’ve been doing… We spent our time living life, then [we were] ready to record a record and here we are!”

Garbage release their fifth album ‘Not Your Kind Of People’ on May 14. Recorded in Atwater Village in Los Angeles, the album has been produced by Garbage and mixed by the band’s drummer Butch Vig.” – NME

Garbage recently gave away a free song on iTunes called ‘Automatic Systematic Habit’ Here’s a preview –>

It seems someone up-loaded the full release here –>

Hip Music: Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror

Will Oldham circ. 1994

Found this hilarious Hipster song by Jeffrey Lewis when I did a search on iTunes for Will Oldham. If you’re not familiar with Will Oldham, he performs under the name Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (and formerly as some variation of the name Palace. I know…it’s confusing…) He’s a singer/songwriter in the Americana style of indie music. (I highly recommend checking him out. He’s awesome.)

Will does not perform in the song, and is being represented with an actor.

Hipster Father’s Day gift ideas

Due to the great response from my Mother’s Day gift ideas post, I’ve decided to make some suggestions for Hipster Father’s out there…

I love these hipster socks (which are also hand-puppets) made by Volcom. I mix and match them when I wear them. I call the female ‘Left Eye’ when it’s on my left foot, and I call the male ones ‘Mr Right’ when it’s on my right foot!

Does this look like a brown paper bag to you? Well it’s not. It’s actually a ceramic container for all your household needs (I keep swizzle sticks in mine.). Sorry…don’t remember where I picked this up. Do a search for it…

Are you like me and hate those little ads car dealerships put on the back of cars without our permission? Well get that thing off and replace it with this hip Auto Icon!

What’s a hipster to due with his bottle of rum when it’s not in use? Why not have this pirate skeleton hold it for you? He won’t drink much. Again, you’re going to have to search this out yourself as well. Shouldn’t be hard to find…

Love garden gnomes? Love zombies? Well now you can have both. Search these out!

What do you do with your pot-scrubber when your not using it? Here’s a hip place to store it.

While in the kitchen…need something hip to stir stuff with? Here’s a couple of cool spatulas.

Sorry this picture is a bit out of focus. These are pretty cool ‘thumb’ tacks any Hipster Dad would love to have. You may have to buy these at a wax museum.

Hope you have a great Father’s Day!
