Hipsters on film….

Just read this article called ‘7 Hipster Movies You Don’t Have To Be A Hipster To Love‘ here on ScreenJunkies.com

I agree with all the movies on the list, which is:

  1. Lost in Translation (I really like all of Sofia Coppola’s films. They all have a pretty awesome soundtrack, and when you pair a good movie with good music…nothing gets better.)
  2. Juno (This movie made me realize what a great actress Ellen Paige is. And of course Michael Cera is the ultimate Hipster.)
  3. 500 Days of Summer (This movie is a romantic comedy, which I usually don’t care for…but I love Zooey Deschanel. Joseph Gordon-Levit is an excellent actor as well…great cast.)
  4. The Royal Tenenbaums (Again…all of director Wes Anderson’s films should be on this list.)
  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Director Michel Gondry started his career directing some awesome music videos. He does wild effects without the use of CGI. I really like some of his films…others..not so much.)
  6. Little Miss Sunshine (I really like this film. Alan Arkin stole the show.)
  7. Pineapple Express (I don’t know if I would call this a ‘hipster’ film as much as I would call it a ‘stoner’ film. From what I heard, someone loved the Brad Pitt character ‘Floyd’ so much in True Romance, that he wanted to see a full-length feature of him, hence this film was made.)

I think this list could be a lot longer than just 7 movies…they left out Clerks for God’s sake! Add a hipster film you really like in the comments. OK?

Trent Reznor + Karen O cover Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just released a video (directed by David Fincher) of a hard-rocking/industrial edged version of ‘Immigrant Song’ by my favorite band of all time…Led Zeppelin. It’s from the soundtrack for the film Girl With The Dragon Tattoo now available on iTunes. The CD comes out later this month.

This makes it the second time Trent Reznor (with his partner Atticus Ross) have worked with Fincher. Reznor and Ross brought home an Oscar for the soundtrack to The Social Network last year, which was directed by Fincher as well. Awesome CD too!

Pearl Jam Twenty on Netflix

I watched the new documentary called Pearl Jam Twenty (or PJ20) streaming on Netflix. I love when new movies go straight to Netflix streaming so I don’t have to wait for it, or go rent it at my local video store. That can sometimes take years.

PJ20 is directed by Cameron Crowe who is famous for starting as a writer for Rolling Stone magazine at the age of 15. He is definitely one of my favorite directors and he is a huge Pearl Jam fan.

I’m a big Pearl Jam fan as well. I first saw them at Lollapalooza ’92, and have seen them a handful of times since them. They always put on a great show, and I’ve always been a huge fan of grunge (Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains…)

I love music and I also love movies, and when the two meet…that’s the best. This movie doesn’t disappoint. It brought back memories of great times in the ’90s. I definitely recommend this documentary.

Will Oldham in Jackass 3?

Just watched Jackass 3 on streaming Netflix. It was hilarious! Many laugh out loud moments.

I was really surprised to see the ultimate hipster Will Oldham taking part in one of the pranks. Will plays a small part of an animal trainer, but his gorilla goes wild and out of control.

If you are not familiar with Will Oldham, he is a awesome musician that performs under the name of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, but has been in a ton of other music projects. You should seriously listen to some of his recordings. He is one of the BEST! I think his vocals sound a lot like Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead.
