Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2012 inductees
I recently (around 12/7/11) saw a news article on-line about the up-coming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2012.
I was very excited to see that ‘hipsters’ the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Donovan (as well as Guns N’ Roses and others) have been inducted!
I also read that the induction concert has been moved back to Cleveland, Ohio instead of New York City where it has taken place for a few years.
Well….I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio and thought that this would be the ultimate concert to see on a visit ‘home’.
I just took a look at RockHall.com website to verify the date, and saw that the concert has already SOLD OUT on Dec 17th!
The concert is taking place on April 14th 2012 at Cleveland’s historic Public Hall.
If anyone goes, and would like to report back to HipsterApproved.net with all the details…that would be great!
Trent Reznor + Karen O cover Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just released a video (directed by David Fincher) of a hard-rocking/industrial edged version of ‘Immigrant Song’ by my favorite band of all time…Led Zeppelin. It’s from the soundtrack for the film Girl With The Dragon Tattoo now available on iTunes. The CD comes out later this month.
This makes it the second time Trent Reznor (with his partner Atticus Ross) have worked with Fincher. Reznor and Ross brought home an Oscar for the soundtrack to The Social Network last year, which was directed by Fincher as well. Awesome CD too!
Jane’s Addiction – The Great Escape Artist CD review
Had to wait eight years to hear a new CD from Jane’s Addiction! Well worth it.
It’s not like Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, and Stephin Perkins along with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek haven’t been keeping themselves busy.
I’m not going to go into detail about the particulars of this CD. Basically if you’re a fan of Jane’s Addiction you will also like this CD. It does not disappoint. If you want a huge review I suggest you check out this one in pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15910-janes-addiction/ (Though I don’t agree with everything that reviewer says about this disc.) I am a huge fan of the band…but I don’t just follow a band blindly. They need to earn my respect and this does. Jane’s Addiction have done it again.
I was lucky to get the bonus edition which includes a second 11 track CD of a live performance from the 2011 Vive Latino Festival in Mexico City. Perry’s between-song banter is hilarious!
Jane’s Addiction is the Led Zeppelin of our generation.
Rob Crow – He Thinks He’s People CD review
I was able to listen to this Rob Crow CD while on a road trip recently, so I’m finally able to write a review.
First off, I have to say that this CD is better then 99% of the new music that’s being released today. I love all the stuff Rob Crow is in, and there’s many. There was just something about this CD that I couldn’t put my finger on…
If you listen to the song that’s posted above, Sophistructure, you’ll see that this is a great album. Though I do think that this is the most ‘catchiest’ song (probably because of the bass line). I was thinking that this CD doesn’t have as many catchie ‘hooks’ as Rob’s 2006 CD, Living Well. Listen to the song, If Wade Would Call, and I think you’ll see what I mean–>
I realized that He Thinks He’s People is not a bad album..it’s that Living Well is genius. In the same way that the Pinback releases are. It’s just nearly impossible to top that.
I think from listening to He Thinks He’s People, I missed Zach Smith. Zach is the bass player for Rob Crow’s band, Pinback. But after seeing Pinback perform live, I realized that Zach is one of the BEST bass players EVER, and he does a pretty fair amount of the singing. So Zach’s absence may be a reason I was so hung up on Rob’s He Thinks He’s People release.
Check out these Pinback videos I found on Youtube. Be sure to check out Zach’s bass playing, and how much they both sing.
Here’s a cool video with Rob clean shaven. Rare nowadays! Also notice that they are both playing basses!

Lulu out today!
Lulu – the new album from Lou Reed and Metallica came out today.
I’ve only heard some samples from the website http://www.loureedmetallica.com/index.php but from what I heard…I think it’s really cool. I am a big Lou Reed fan, and I think he really personifies ‘Hipster’.
I did come across a hilarious video on youtube about the release. Check it out!!
