Today starts the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, Illinois. I’m pretty bummed I can’t be there, but they are doing a live webcast on YouTube. I’m going to check that out. Here’s a link to their channel –> YouTube
Looks like a great line-up. I used to see Lollapalooza every year (sometimes in more than one city each year) when it was still a touring festival. Turns out Perry Farrell, the founder, didn’t like playing in the corporate owned amphitheaters. Good for him, but bad for me because I don’t get to the Chicago area that much. I have it on my Bucket List though.
Can’t believe it’s twenty years old now. I’ve seen the tour first in Cleveland, Ohio..then Columbus, Ohio…Virginia Beach and the Washington, DC area. Good times…
I’ve seen the shows in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, missed the 1996 show, but saw it again in 1997. Lollapalooza then took a five year break. I went again in 2003. I had tickets to the 2004 show, but that was cancelled, and that’s when the festival was permanently moved to Chicago. Haven’t seen it since then.
It was announced today that pre-sale tickets for fan club members only are currently on sale for Jane’s Addiction‘s THEATRE OF THE ESCAPISTS TOUR. (with Black Box Revelation)
The show is coming to the National Theater in Richmond, Virginia on Friday March 9th. Unfortunately general admission tickets ($44.95) are already SOLD OUT. As I write this…there are still tickets available for the Ticket + Autographed Lithograph package deal ($74.95).
Now I believe these are just the pre-sale tickets that are sold out, and more tickets will be put on sale when the show goes on-sale to the general public on Saturday January 14th.
Had to wait eight years to hear a new CD from Jane’s Addiction! Well worth it.
It’s not like Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, and Stephin Perkins along with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek haven’t been keeping themselves busy.
I’m not going to go into detail about the particulars of this CD. Basically if you’re a fan of Jane’s Addiction you will also like this CD. It does not disappoint. If you want a huge review I suggest you check out this one in pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15910-janes-addiction/ (Though I don’t agree with everything that reviewer says about this disc.) I am a huge fan of the band…but I don’t just follow a band blindly. They need to earn my respect and this does. Jane’s Addiction have done it again.
I was lucky to get the bonus edition which includes a second 11 track CD of a live performance from the 2011 Vive Latino Festival in Mexico City. Perry’s between-song banter is hilarious!
Jane’s Addiction is the Led Zeppelin of our generation.
