See if you can spot the Hipsters!
I don’t think it’d be easy to more of a Hipster than these guys…
For those that use iTunes (doesn’t everyone?), the Free Single of the Week is Jake Bugg’s ‘Lightning Bolt’. You can download it free here –>itunes.apple.com/us/album/lightning-bolt-single/id620456099 in the U.S.
It amazes me that Jake Bugg is only 19 years old. I have t-shirts older than him!
I first became familiar with Jake Bugg after reading an awesome concert review (complete with excellent pictures) on the blog Every Record Tells A Story. You can read it here–> EveryRecordTellsAStory.com/2013/03/27/jake-bugg-live/ (This blog is full of great stories out of the UK. I highly recommend it.)
The first thing that strikes you when you see Jake Bugg live is that he reminds you of a sulky teenager (because he is one) in his Adidas trainers and Fred Perry shirt – but then he opens his mouth and out comes the most amazing voice. This is a voice that cuts through all the nonsense in the newspapers and leads you to ask “How does someone that young get to be so good?” ~ EveryRecordTellsAStory.com
It actually may not be correct to call this a ‘video’. On the site, it’s referred to as ‘An interactive film by Chris Milk‘ called The Wilderness Downtown. It uses the song ‘We Used To Wait’ by Arcade Fire as sort of the musical score.
What you do is go to the site http://thewildernessdowntown.com/ and you are asked to type in the address of the house you grew up in as a child. Once loaded the ‘film’ will start. It’s important you don’t click closed any of the windows that ‘pop up’! They are supposed to do that
It’s unlike any music video I’ve seen before because it uses Google Maps for images of the house and neighborhood which you’ve entered. Another outstanding feature is the use of multiple PC ‘windows’ opening and closing to the beat of the song. Very cool!
PS…You’ve seen this clip of Bowie performing with Arcade Fire in NYC’s Radio City a few years back…right? Awesome.
