It appears he will be playing all the ‘hits’, but did anyone get Scott’s masterpiece solo work released back in 1998 called ‘12 Bar Blues‘? Genius.iTunes

About Sigur Ros: Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson (guitar and vocals), Georg Hólm (bass) and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (drums) formed the group in Reykjavík in August 1994. Their name is Icelandic wordplay: while the individual words Sigur and Rós mean, respectively, Victory and Rose, “Victory Rose” wouldn’t be grammatically correct; the name is actually borrowed from Jónsi’s younger sister Sigurrós, who was born the same day as the band was formed, and then split into two words. They soon won a record deal with the local Sugarcubes-owned record label, Bad Taste. In 1997, they released Von, meaning “hope” and in 1998 a remix collection named Von brigði. This name is also Icelandic wordplay: Vonbrigði means “disappointment”, but Von brigði means “variations on Von”. The band was joined by Kjartan Sveinsson on keyboards in 1998. He is the only member of Sigur Rós with musical training, and has contributed most of the orchestral and string arrangements for their later work.
The hippest indie band of all time, Neutral Milk Hotel (Jeff Mangum, Jeremy Barnes, Scott Spillane, & Julian Koster) will be performing at the beautiful National Theater in downtown Richmond Virginia on Saturday October 12, 2013. Tickets go on-sale this Friday May 10th at 10:am EST. Tickets will be $40 after the service fees.
Also, I was able to make it to a couple of our local shows here in Norfolk Virginia, at one of my favorite venues – The Norva Theater.

As a resident of the city of Norfolk Virginia, I was very excited to hear about this film. I believe I read the interview that was in Veer Magazine when the filmmakers appeared on the cover.
Somehow I lost track of the date and missed the Opening Night showing at the Naro Theater. I’m sure that must have been quite an event. And ‘red-carpet’ events like that don’t happen that often here in Norfolk, VA. (Some footage of it appears as bonus material on the second disc!)
Debra Persons, the films co-director and executive producer, was nice enough to meet with me to talk about the film. I could really tell that this movie was a labor of love for Debra. This film is very personal to her, and co-director and associate producer Andrea Rizzo. The two were living the awesome life you see portrayed on the screen. By that I mean that the bands that you see in the movie are the bands that they were going out to see and getting to know. The same goes for cinematographer and editor Paul Unger only a bit later in the local scene.
The film starts with a brief history of the ‘Norfolk Sound‘ and the rich musical past that was in this area for quite some time. Very interesting. The footage of Tidewater landmarks and skylines are great and the ‘DIY‘ feel of it adds to the overall aesthetic of the film.
It’s not long till the documentary focuses on rock n roll…
I’m not going to spoil any of the great stories that are told in the film. (And it’s awesome that I know so many people interviewed in the movie!) I advise that you buy a copy of this great DVD for yourself and watch it. And tell your friends to do the same. These film-makers had a dream and went for it…and had success! That is a very bold thing for someone to do and I applaud them for that. We should all show our support by getting a DVD or CD (or both).
They don’t have any plans to make other feature films. (Except Paul…he’s still working in the video business). This is the movie that they envisioned to make, and after a lot of tweaking…it’s done. You can check out their website at –> www.HardcoreNorfolk.com
Original Hipster…Morrissey…has canceled tonight’s performance in Richmond Virginia at the National Theater due to health reasons. (Refunds are at the point of purchase).
Here’s what Vulture.com had to say about it:
Morrissey’s health issues forced him to delay a string of concerts and eventually cancel part of his North American tour, but now it sounds a little more serious. Speaking to the Mexican radio station Reactor 105.7, the 53-year-old Smiths front man said his bleeding ulcer, pneumonia, and a throat condition called Barrett’s esophagus kept him hospitalized for five weeks. Now he’s been advised to play it safe and retire. “I have been cautioned to, but it’s difficult for me because it’s very ingrained in me,” he says. He did announce plans to retire in two years back in 2012 …
Those looking for other concerts to attend should check out my Local Calendar page for the latest listings. (I also recommend Pollstar.com for concert info.)
BTW… found this funny picture of Morrissey while surfing the Inter-web…best caption EVER.

Alice In Chains is scheduled to perform at The Norva Theater in beautiful downtown Norfolk, Virginia on Sunday May 5th. Tickets are $45 in advance (plus svc charge).
Band of Horses will also be at The Norva Theater on Tue May 27th. Tickets are $27.50 in advance.
