Now on Netflix…Workaholics!

I’m going to give the HipsterApproved Seal to the show Workaholics which has it’s first season now streaming at Netflix! The show is on Comedy Central if you have cable.

It’s a hip stoner office situation comedy. Since it’s on cable it’s allowed to get pretty wild!

One particular funny thing I heard was someone comparing the character ‘Blake’ to Captain Caveman!

That got me thinking about how much the DJ Skrillex looks like Corey Feldman. Well…when I went to look for pictures of them, I found out I’m not the first person to think so…

This photo of the two of them together proves it's not just one person.

By the way…check out this song that Skrillex made with the members of The Doors called Breakn’ A Sweat.

Jeff Mangum adds dates to tour…

Jeff Mangum, former frontman of ultra-hip band Neutral Milk Hotel has added a few more dates to his current tour…including Coachella.

Unfortunately for me…the closest he’s coming here is the Lincoln Theatre (with the Music Tapes) in Washington, DC next week, Jan 27th and 28th. And as of yet, I have no confirmed plans to attend either show. It appears neither show has two seats together at this time. (Tickets could still be put back into the TicketMaster system until it is officially labeled sold out.) (If someone makes it to a show, and would like to be a contributor…let me know at info@HipsterApproved.net)

While poking around Pitchfork.com I came across this video of a surprise set at Occupy Wall Street in NYC this past Oct. Pretty cool….

Lana Del Rey on SNL

Did you catch ‘internet sensation’ Lana Del Rey on SNL this past Saturday? It seems her performance is being bashed pretty hard. I thought it was OK. I’m not really familiar with her work, so I didn’t have a reference to compare it to. I definitely think she’s a hipster.

I just remembered there’s a free download of her single ‘Born to Die’ still available on iTunes. So you may want to get that.

I heard at the end of the show that on Saturday Feb 4th, Bon Iver is the musical guest. REALLY looking forward to that. If you’re not familiar with Bon Iver, you really owe it to yourself to check it out!

I want to go to there…

Hipsters on TV…Jack White on ‘Pickers’

Is there anyone more Hip than Jack White? I don’t think so. From The White Stripes, to The Raconteurs, and also The Dead Weather. Jack is the best.

I have recently watched entire seasons of the reality show called American Pickers on Netflix. Love it. Problem is I don’t have cable so I can’t see recent episodes. Thank God for youtube. Or watch the full episode over at the History Channel.

Breaking Local NEWS…Jane’s Addiction!

It was announced today that pre-sale tickets for fan club members only are currently on sale for Jane’s Addiction‘s THEATRE OF THE ESCAPISTS TOUR. (with Black Box Revelation)

The show is coming to the National Theater in Richmond, Virginia on Friday March 9th. Unfortunately general admission tickets ($44.95) are already SOLD OUT. As I write this…there are still tickets available for the Ticket + Autographed Lithograph package deal ($74.95).

Now I believe these are just the pre-sale tickets that are sold out, and more tickets will be put on sale when the show goes on-sale to the general public on Saturday January 14th.

A lot o’ people don’t realize what’s really going on. They view life as a bunch o’ unconnected incidents ‘n things. They don’t realize that there’s this, like, lattice o’ coincidence that lays on top o’ everything. Give you an example, show you what I mean: suppose you’re thinkin’ about a plate o’ shrimp. Suddenly someone’ll say, like, “plate,” or “shrimp,” or “plate o’ shrimp” out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin’ for one, either. It’s all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.       ~ Miller

Hipsters on TV…Portlandia!

I just got done watching the first season of the awesome hipster TV show Portlandia. It is now streaming instantly on Netflix. The second season just got stared on the Independent Film Channel if you have cable.

The show feels a lot like watching Saturday Night Live sketches (which is a good thing) maybe due to Fred Armisen being a current SNL cast member and the show is produced by SNL creator Lorne Michaels.

The other co-star of the show is Carrie Brownstein best known for being the guitarist for the  Portland, Oregon based band Sleater-Kinney as well as being a writer and actress. She is hilarious.

Here’s a bit from the Wikipedia page:

Guest stars include Selma Blair, Steve Buscemi, Aimee Mann, Sarah McLachlan, Heather Graham, Aubrey Plaza, Jason Sudeikis, Gus Van Sant, and Kyle MacLachlan, as the mayor of Portland. Two episodes also feature real Portland mayor Sam Adams as an assistant to MacLachlan’s fictional mayor. Another episode including a music festival similar to Portland’s MusicfestNW featured a rock band played by Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, James Mercer of The Shins, and Brownstein’s former Sleater-Kinney bandmate Corin Tucker, as well as an indie guitarist played by Decemberist Jenny Conlee.

You don’t get much more hip than that.

Hip local news…Tool performing in Hampton VA!

Got back to HipsterApproved Headquarters last night from the trek over to the West Coast. (pictures coming soon..have to get rid of the jet-lag first.) Was quite excited to find waiting in the inbox of my email a notice about the hippest band, Tool performing at Hampton Coliseum on Friday February 3rd.

Tickets go on-sale tomorrow, Saturday January 7th 10:00am. Tickets cost about $54 or $69 depending on where your seat is located.

Maynard James Keenan may be the hardest working man in show busniess. I know that Puscifer is currently touring, and A Perfect Circle just wrapped-up a tour not too long ago.

MJK also is busy making wine. If you haven’t seen the movie Blood Into Wine, you should definitely check it out. It’s currently available to stream from Netflix.
