Local News…Whale in Ocean View!

Some weird local news…that is pretty un-hip actually…Hey local people – Have you seen the big dead whale that washed up in OV? I went and checked it out after getting a whiff of it when I was going to Farm Fresh for some groceries! It’s on the beach right near the public bathrooms and the parking lot. Man…it’s gross…

It got me thinking about when that dead whale washed up in Oregon a few years gone by….this was way before Portlandia…

Who knew you could buy a bamboo bicycle right here in Ocean View? Sweet!

Local News: Sustainable Living Fair @ ODU this weekend

The 3rd annual Sustainable Living Fair is coming to the Webb Center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia this weekend, Sat Feb 18 10am and Sun the 19th 11am.

This event is totally free (even the parking) with the exception of the optional Rain Barrel Workshop. There is a fee for the cost of the items to make a rain barrel if you like, but you get to take it home with you after you make it. (Which I did last year.) I liked my rain barrel SO much I contacted the instructor, Mike and bought another one! You do have to register and pre-pay, so go to the website if you’d like one.

The Keynote this year is Tony Geraci.  He’s a film maker, chef, and healthy food activist. He is debuting his new documentary — Cafeteria Man , for the first time in Hampton Roads on Saturday at 5pm.

Tracy Morgan coming to Va Beach Funny Bone Feb 16 – Feb 19 2012

Tracy Morgan, one of the stars of the totally hip TV show 30 Rock is performing at the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Virginia Beach’s Town Center Thurs Feb 16th to Sun Feb 19th.

Tracy is scheduled for one show at 8pm on Thur, but has two shows on Fri, Sat, and Sun (times vary). Tickets are $45 and are in the ‘Full Menu Showroom’. Which I guess means the ‘Big Room’…I’ve never actual been to this Funny Bone location. I’ve been to one in a different city, and it was always a great time. If someone could comp me tickets to this show, that would be great. I’d love to write a review.

Owl City appearing at the Norva 11/14/11

Hip new band Owl City is playing a show at the beautiful Norva Theater in downtown Norfolk, Virginia on Monday November 14th.

Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 the day of the show.

I’m not really familiar with the band. I’ve only heard a few songs…but from what I hear, they sound a lot like Ben Gibbard‘s (of Death Cab for Cutie) project The Postal Service. Which is a huge compliment.

I would like to see this show, but I don’t have a ticket. If anyone has an extra, I sure would appreciate a hook-up. Or maybe I could get added to the guest list? Just let me know at info@hipsterapproved.net

Thanks

Richmond “I heard there are actually a bunch of anarchists here” Virginia

Hello…thanks for stopping by to read about all things hip.

This is a work in progress right now. I will be adding an eBay store and a Facebook page (Facebook is totally new to me). Be sure to check back often for updates. Or click on “Follow” to get all the latest delivered right to your inbox!

Anyway…I read this cool article on the web today that actually mentions Richmond, VA as being a “hipster approved” city to live in. That is SO cool considering that I am headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia (Ocean View section). Richmond is the nearest “big” city to us. After that it’s Washington DC.

The article had this cool graphic with it->
