Pearl Jam Twenty on Netflix

I watched the new documentary called Pearl Jam Twenty (or PJ20) streaming on Netflix. I love when new movies go straight to Netflix streaming so I don’t have to wait for it, or go rent it at my local video store. That can sometimes take years.

PJ20 is directed by Cameron Crowe who is famous for starting as a writer for Rolling Stone magazine at the age of 15. He is definitely one of my favorite directors and he is a huge Pearl Jam fan.

I’m a big Pearl Jam fan as well. I first saw them at Lollapalooza ’92, and have seen them a handful of times since them. They always put on a great show, and I’ve always been a huge fan of grunge (Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains…)

I love music and I also love movies, and when the two meet…that’s the best. This movie doesn’t disappoint. It brought back memories of great times in the ’90s. I definitely recommend this documentary.

Will Oldham in Jackass 3?

Just watched Jackass 3 on streaming Netflix. It was hilarious! Many laugh out loud moments.

I was really surprised to see the ultimate hipster Will Oldham taking part in one of the pranks. Will plays a small part of an animal trainer, but his gorilla goes wild and out of control.

If you are not familiar with Will Oldham, he is a awesome musician that performs under the name of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, but has been in a ton of other music projects. You should seriously listen to some of his recordings. He is one of the BEST! I think his vocals sound a lot like Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead.

Hipster band ‘Cake’ perform tonight in Norfolk 12-1-11

In local news…96X FM is hosting a concert tonight at the Ted at ODU.

Hipster bands Cake, Cage The Elephant, and Bush are performing. There are a few other bands I haven’t really heard of…and some I’ve only heard on SNL, like Foster The People. But I’m sure some Hipsters really like them…

Anyway tickets were hella expensive plus a service charge. Doors open at 5pm, so that’s in just a couple of hours. If I were going…I’d just show up at the door and see if anyone has any extra tickets they’d like to sell cheap instead of them loosing their money on. But that’s just me….

I can’t make it to this show, but if there’s anyone out there that goes and would like to be a contributor to HipsterApproved.net just let me know. Leave a comment or email me at info@hipsterapproved.net

Free Olivia Tremor Control download

Aside

Hey…I keep reading on the net about the new OTC song ‘The Game You Play is in Your Head Parts 1,2,3’ that’s currently for-sale on iTunes, and about the current tour. (Too bad they’re not coming anywhere near me.) They also have a new full-length to be released soon! Really looking forward to that…

I’m a long-time huge fan of them and a lot of the other bands on Elephant 6 Records. But really, Olivia Tremor Control is right up there near the very top.

While surfing Pitchfork, I came across this site with a free download of a live radio show (5 songs, plus an interview). It’s at FreeMusicArchive.org here -> http://freemusicarchive.org/music/The_Olivia_Tremor_Control/Live_at_WFMU_on_Gaylord_Fields_Show_on_October_16_2011/

Thanksgiving 2011

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you are having a good one.

I found this funny as hell Hipster comic here-> http://hipsterhitler.com/comics/thanksgiving/ Check it out!

I also found this cool little article at Some Guy Daily News:

ANYWHERE—A group of obnoxious hipsters near you, which could be anywhere in the country at any given time, are unsure as to what the proper way is for them to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. The current consensus is to hedge their bets by getting together for a typical Thanksgiving meal but not being at all happy about it.

“We might watch some football, you know, ironically,” said insufferable hipster Brian “Bert” Aultman. “And cheer for the Dallas Yankees to… you know, um… score a home run from the 3-point line.”

The hipsters, all dressed like someone sneezed chewed-up milk-trodden Fruity Pebbles onto your glasses, are all planning to eat Oscar Meyer brand deli turkey instead of cooking a regular turkey as per Thanksgiving custom. “It’s just a more American celebration to do it this way, ultimately,” said Aultman while frowning into his $600 iPad 2. “You know, because it’s like… it’s an American holiday, and there’s nothing more Americanized than Oscar Meyer lunchmeat, so it’s like… oh nevermind, if I have to explain it you’ll never get it.”

“We can’t really afford a real turkey anyway since we’re all broke,” he continued while adjusting his $180 designer glasses, brushing off his $210 designer skinny jeans and tucking away the loan payments he just got in the mail that he owes for his $120,000 art school degree.

Also, one final thing…I came across a recent Hipster article at NPR.org Check it out here–> http://www.npr.org/2011/11/16/142387490/the-hipsterfication-of-america

Pretty interesting…what do you think?

First post!

Richmond “I heard there are actually a bunch of anarchists here” Virginia

Hello…thanks for stopping by to read about all things hip.

This is a work in progress right now. I will be adding an eBay store and a Facebook page (Facebook is totally new to me). Be sure to check back often for updates. Or click on “Follow” to get all the latest delivered right to your inbox!

Anyway…I read this cool article on the web today that actually mentions Richmond, VA as being a “hipster approved” city to live in. That is SO cool considering that I am headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia (Ocean View section). Richmond is the nearest “big” city to us. After that it’s Washington DC.

The article had this cool graphic with it->

You can read the very funny article and comments that follow here-> http://therumpus.net/2011/05/post-grad-hipsters-guide-to-inhabitable-u-s-cities/#more-79259
